Mission & Objectives

Mission: We educate family physicians to deliver innovative, comprehensive healthcare and serve our communities as leaders in rural family medicine.

Vision: Improve health. Prepare Leaders, Revolutionize healthcare.

Program History

Cascades East was the second family medicine residency to be developed in Oregon and accepted its first residents in July 1994. Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine administers and sponsors the program. It is a collaboration of OHSU and Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls. The Oregon Area Health Education Center program (AHEC) was involved in starting the program. In 2006, the program increased to eight residents per class for a total of 24 residents.

Program Highlights

Klamath Falls represents one of OHSU’s commitments to rural healthcare and comprehensiveness. With 80% of our graduates entering practice into rural communities, we are proud of our graduate outcomes and the impact on the health of rural communities across Oregon and beyond. We have innovative programs in Wilderness Medicine, Point of Care Ultrasound, and advanced maternity care. Our clinic is a five star Patient-Centered Primary Care Home and we are strongly committed to partnering with our community to improve health. Every resident completes a Frontier rotation in their second year at a critical access hospital in eastern Oregon to better experience the continuum of rural comprehensiveness.
