Program History

Our Family Medicine Residency was established in 2008 as part of the OR2CA Project, sponsored by the OPTI-West, and was intended to develop Osteopathic Graduate Medical Education (OGME) in Oregon and California, particularly in geographic areas with few OGME opportunities. We started out with three residents total and over the next six years (2008-2014) we gradually increased our class sizes to our current number of 27 residents, 9 per class.

We have traditionally been an osteopathic program but with the Single Accreditation System we became dually accredited in 2015 and, in 2018, became fully ACGME accredited with Continued Accreditation. This year our program graduated its first two MD residents and with the incoming class of 2020, we will have 5 MDs and 22 DOs. Our program has helped to bring primary care doctors to the Mid-Willamette Valley area and we currently have nine alumni, two of which are core faculty, as well as, two 2020 graduates who work for Samaritan Health Services.

Program Highlights

We are a Family Medicine Residency focused on training physicians to enter rural and under-served communities in Oregon. We focus on training full spectrum physicians who can be leaders in their communities, have an understanding of population health, run an interdisciplinary team, all while providing excelling care to their patients. Our program is dual-accredited with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Osteopathic Association (AOA). We are based at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon. We are one program with three continuity clinic site locations including Albany, Corvallis and Lebanon. All of our continuity clinics are Patient-Centered Medical Homes with additional support staff to help care for our patients. This includes mental health specialists, nutritionists, pharmacists, care coordinators and others.
